Leading Malaysian contemporary artist Anurendra Jagadeva takes over Wei-Ling Contemporary for a solo exhibition that features 35 portraits, painted on the actual pages from The Picturesque Atlas of Australasia, a vintage London based publication from the 1880s. These pages – replete with antiquated words and intricate illustrations and charts – serve as the backdrop for the artist’s own painted diary of contemporary Australian life.
With this body of work, the artist explores notions of change in the face of the yearning for the way things used to be.
This exhibition will be accompanied by the launch of a new 300-page tome, documenting 30 years of the artist’s illustrious career.
