A Day at F1 Grand Prix for Apple Hotel

Yesterday was the Race Day at the Formula 1 Grand Prix. We decided to go along for a look. This was my first time at any motor sporting event. I have seen it in TV and was very keen to see the differences. The track would take us from Apple Hotel in Jalan Alor all the way to Sepang International Circuit. Around 45 minutes from Kuala Lumpur.

Our trip started off with a tram from Bukit Bintang to KL Sentral. A short walk across to the catch the bus from the main platform. The cost RM30 for return trip. The trip is same as flying out to the LCCT. As soon as we arrived after an uneventful journey, we were transferred to another bus. One that would take us all the way from the bottom of the hill to the actual circuit.

As soon as we got off the bus, we were treated to music blasting off from the staging area. The sound of some techno babble making us feel young again. Here people were milling around looking for things to do. Tents were erected by the major teams, Red Bull had the girls walking around giving you wings for Rm10. The LG tent was pretty good, a bit more interactive with the race driving challenge. It was simulator and a pretty good one at that. Petronas had a tent with the other love of my life. A RM 850 000 car. If only I could take it for a spin. We wandered off taking photos from there in around half an hour for the actual race start.

Very Nice Car

The cars were all lined up on the grid. Having a not so good seat, we watched more of it on the giant tv than the actual drivers zoom past every once in a while. The buzz was electrifying. People were dressed in all kinds of race gear supporting teams. Petronas easily had the home crowd behind them however Mercedes were not to be left behind with a large number of overseas supporters and mix that into the bag with Ferrari. The warm up lap started and you could see people on the edge of their seats. What a treat this was. The tyres were the big talking point before the race and we could still hear the announces harp on about it on our headsets. If you ever go to one of these, bring ear plugs.

Finally the race got under way, Webber’s car had a malfunction of sorts and didn’t get off to a good start. Vettel, favorite to win the race, didn’t let the Red Bull fans down. Eventually taking the checked flag. Hamilton had some problems, Webber finished 4th unable to get on the podium. Overall the race was very exhilarating. I have achieved at last to go to a Formula One Race.
