2) Dim Sum @ Chuai Heng Restaurant, Jalan Bukit Bintang KL

But I made an exception for Chuai Heng and had my dim sum brunch there for two consecutive weekends because their dim sum is really good, albeit slightly higher priced than the rest.

The restaurant might look normal from the outside but the interior is actually quite grand with a welcoming appeal. Dim sum is ordered using an a la carte paper menu and prepared to order so they always taste warm and fresh.

Fried Carrot Cake @ RM14, with portion large enough to be shared between at least two pax. Nicely done with a hint of spiciness and ample ‘wok hei’, a few large prawns are thrown in as well for the extra flavor.

3) Ibunda Malay Fine Dining @ Jalan Bukit Bintang

A few months ago (see: last year) we bought a discount voucher for Ibunda, advertised as a Malay fine dining buffet. We sat on it for a few months thinking there was no rush to use it, and like typical Malaysians we ended up using it only on the last week of the deal. Thank goodness it didn’t go to waste!

The inside looks modern enough and not too traditional. Calling it “fine dining” might be stretching it a bit though; I’m sure the fine dining purists will thumb their noses at Ibunda. I thought the settings were nice and comfortable, but service was a bit slow at times even though business wasn’t roaring. That might have been because of the food…

A variety of starters save for the picture in the bottom right corner, which is some pumpkin dessert. Mainly cold dishes, so we didn’t give all of them a try. Names are on the leaves =)
