So Seriously, I have mentioned all the tourist places, talked about them, granted them god-like status however let’s focus on five things that you absolutely have to do in Kuala Lumpur. Now all these places are within walking distances from Apple Hotel in Jalan Alor. No, i won’t make you climb a mountain or something like that thou we could all use a little exercise.
You have heard me mention Jalan Alor many many times. Well, i’m going to mention it again. Around 20 meters (maybe less) down the road is a little shop or more like a cart. This is run by a local Chinese Lad and all he sells is fruit. Whats so special about that you ask? The thing is, he sells a variety of fruit. I would advise going there and asking him to add some of that magic powder he has on the some mango. Now the cost of this is only RM2. Dead cheap.
The second thing i would recommend doing is walking just a tad bit further down Jalan Alor close to the Hotel again. It’s around another 20 meters and on you left hand side. The inside has windows with which you can see the restaurant next door. Here you ask for the stingray and bbq chicken. The stingray here is by far the best in Kuala Lumpur in my opinion. Don’t walk in for the service as the old lady serving you doesn’t take any stick. This place is overall famous for BBQ Chicken around Kuala Lumpur. Cost here is around RM30.
Still not satisfied? Keep walking around the corner past Jalan Alor along to Pudu by Times Square. Here you will have the pleasure trying some very herbal Chinese Tea. Refer to my earlier blog please for more information. It seems like a lifetime ago since I last dived into this. The old enemny Ya Sei Mei as it is known. Costs vary depending on what you want however average it out to around RM4. This is the master of tea and you will either love it or well we all know that hate is such a strong word. If you have a cold or feel sick, have to say, great cure.
The fourth thing as we continue our nice little merry walk is what I mentioned yesterday Bak Kut Teh . These is normally a late nightmeal. When walking around the area of Pudu, you should be able to find a vendor who sells this. Great taste and good for the night. Just watch our the meat falls off the bone. Amazing. I think this is one of my top 5 favorite meals in Kuala Lumpur. Maybe all time. The beauty of this is as mentioned earlierm you can refill as often as possible with the sauce. Keep the sauce and rice coming with that amazing caramelized dried onion.
Running out of things to do, well since the bars close at 3am, why not jump on to a local Karaoke joint. Yes, i said it. Karaoke is as popular here as in Korea or Japan. The locals love it. I did go to an engagement party where the Que for the mike was 10 deep. They love singing. Even thou my singing is not quite the up to local or international standards, I would still jump in for some “born to be wild”. Standing between a man and his mike is not always a good idea. So here is a mini night out with 5 thing to do in Kuala Lumpur right close to Apple Hotel.
