KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 16, 2011): Thirty-eight Malaysia Day 2011 babies, comprising 20 girls and 18 boys, have been born at three government hospitals and two private hospitals in the national capital today.
A survey by Bernama found that 17 were born at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), followed by Ampang Hospital (10), Kajang Hospital (8), Sentosa Medical Centre (2) and one at the Tropicana Medical Centre.
Four of the babies were delivered through “caesarean’, three at HKL and another at Ampang Hospital.
HKL welcomed its first 2011 Malaysia Day baby at 12.15am with the birth of 2.94kg girl, while a 2.21kg boy became this year’s first Malaysia Day baby born at Ampang Hospital. He was born at 12.20am.
A strong sense of patriotism filled the air as tens of thousands of people joined the nation’s leaders at Dataran Merdeka (just a 15 min on the road travel from Apple Hotel) here for the first ever simultaneous celebrations of the National Day and Malaysia Day.
The younger generation dominated this year’s celebrations, forming the largest group among the 10,000-strong participants in the four-segment parades. The participants, comprising school students, teachers, security personnel, and government and private sector employees started to gather around the venue as early as 5am to get ready for the historic occasion.
