The KL Lantern Parade Festival is an event held annually at Central Market. It is organised by Pesta Tanglung 1Malaysia and sponsored by Ministry of Tourism Malaysia.The Lantern Parade Festival is aimed at promoting the Malaysian culture and festivals and will host a plethora of cultural activities comprising lion dance performance, fireworks, dance and singing performances. The second most important festival after the spring festival, the mid-autumn festival is traditionally celebrated on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the Chinese calendar. The festival is a special time as it is one of the few reunion holidays for Chinese families who come together to celebrate,
How did Mid – Autumn festival come about?
According to history and origins,the Mid-autumn Festival dates back over 3,000 years when ancient Chinese emperors worshiped the moon in the autumn,as they believed that the practice would bring them another harvest year.However,it was not until the early Tang Dynasty was the day officially celebrated as a traditional festival…It then became an established festival during the Song Dynasty,and has become as popular as the Spring Festival since the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Eating Moon Cakes - The Mid Autumn Festival is nothing without mooncake.This traditional food is the most popular celebration of the day.Mooncakes are traditionally Chinese pastries,which are made of wheat flour and a sweet stuffing such lotus seed paste.A symbol of family reunion,and traditionally cut into pieces that equal the number of people in the family.
Come September month, KL lights up with bright-colourful lanterns and an assorted selection of moon cakes. The Mid-Autumn Festival also known as the Lantern Festival is one of the most important festivals for the Chinese around the world. As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, come and celebrate this special occasion at Central Market during the KL Lantern Parade Festival 2011.
The Lantern Parade procession trails starts from Central Market and passes along Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock to Chinatown and ends back at Central Market. The 2km walk covers 30 to 45 minutes walk. On top of that, it is about 15 minutes away from Apple Hotel.
